It looks like some of the pre-built files into the tarball are wrong.
It might also be that whoever made it needed the newer automake. When I
reran automake using my system, one obvious difference was this:
-# Makefile.in generated automatically by automake 1.3 from Makefile.am
+# Makefile.in generated automatically by automake 1.3b from Makefile.am
I found 1.3b much more readable. (:
Anyway, running automake (-1.3b) fixed the problem. Now I'm going to
recompile all my tarballs after running automake before I build and see
if anything else yacks.
[I know you're supposed to use automake when you build
from CVS, but you *have* to because the pre-built files
aren't included. I didn't see the same commandment for
tarballs so I haven't done it (up to now, at least)].
