I don't know. This puzzles me, too. Why do things with 'run in
terminal' get run in an xterm, and is there a way to easily change
this to running in a gnome-terminal being the default?

Because I want gnome-terminals, instead of making launchers and menu
items by typing the command name into the launcher and clicking 'run
in terminal', I do them by typing the command name as an argument to
gnome-terminal and not clicking 'run in terminal'.

For example, the properties for one are something like:

Name: Lightning
Comment:
Command: gnome-terminal --title=Lightning --command="slogin lightning"
Type: Application

with the "run in terminal" box unchecked (and a whole bunch of foreground,
background, and geometry options cut out :))

This should work for you, too. I wish I knew why Gnome runs xterms
rather than gnome-terminals for the default when you hit "run in
terminal", though..
