Gnome installation

Hi, i am having all sorts of confusion/trouble with the gnome
installation.
I installed a custom/everything installation of red hat 5.2.
clearly gnome is not ready to run. I tryed to RPM  the files needed from
the cd but that didnt work. i downloaded the files from gnome's FTP
site. i RPMed them all but it gave me errors for half of them saying
that they required each other.
still no gnome :-(
exactly what must i do to get gnome happening from a custom/everything
installation.
