This doesn't seem to work for me. I hung up, added "bogohost", deleted
/etc/HOSTNAME, rebooted, and saw that /etc/HOSTNAME was set to
localhost.localdomain. But as soon as I dialed up again, it went back to
dial*.edu. Perhaps the mechanics have changed between 5.1 and 5.2?
So I suppose I could hack up the init scripts... but that misses the point of my
original whine: if GNOME is supposed to work when you're not on the network, why is
it complaining? Am I loosing any functionality (other than the obvious)? If I am,
then GNOME ain't for me, because I spend more time hung up than dialed up. If I'm
not losing anything, it should be completely transparent to GNOME.
