A machine can have many different hostnames.  Try telling your machine
that your hostname is localhost.  That way any local programs will think
your hostname is "localhost" and your IP address is 127.0.0.1.  When you
connect, all remote machines will think your IP address is whatever the
university assigns you, and your hostname is dialwhatever.ots.utexas.edu.
