Getting damned extace built.

Hi guys,

Alright, how the heck do I get a working extace binary for my Debian 2.0
box? I saw a screenshot of it, thought "definate drool value, must
get...", and later learned that it's not packaged for Debian, and not
even available via ftp, only cvs. So I grabbed cvs, then grabbed extace,
and then saw an *.am file and knew I'd need automake to. I've got all
the gnome-dev packages for Debian, so I should have all the *.h files I
need, but now how the heck do I build this thing? I've never done
anything harder than a ./configure ; make ; whatever else. Do I need to
grab autoconf to? Step by step instructions would be really, really
appreciated.
