Should not be necessary.

*blink* Lives there a system without XPM installed still?

Go thou to http://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/solaris/sparc and download xpm3.4h. It
is virtually impossible to build *any* modern X11 application with reasonably
complete functionality if one doesn't have XPM.

(Why, oh why, hasn't Sun started shipping it?)

Same problem as above. (XPM = XPixMap... the server has pixmap support, but
without the XPM library userspace support is limited to XImage and drawing
into pixmaps as if they were windows.)
