Somehow.  The GNOME MDI code provides similar functionality.

Gnome-XML is fully usable it provides XML file manipulation.  

It is being used by the rpmfind packages written by Daniel Veillard,
Gnumeric (a spreadsheet) and gwp (a word processor).
