This isn't common knowledge?  config.cache is only safe to use when rebuilding 
the same unmodified package with the same options on the same machine with the 
same dependencies.  (In fact, as a result it's fairly worthless around here, 
except when there are sub-configures that can benefit from it *during* the 
main configure.)
