gnome-session doesn't really have a babysitter at the moment, but I
heard rumors Glynn Foster has been trying to hack on it. See:

Maybe you guys could get together and write the non-GUI bits of the
session manager as shared code? That'd be sure things always
work. Though I guess following the xsm spec should ensure that
too. ;-)

If you want neutral-ground CVS, I can set it up on freedesktop.org.

Anyhow, if nothing else you should be able to sort out some of the
issues and get gsm fixed.
