Re: Has GNOME-Journal Died?

Right now the major need is articles. We accept articles from anyone.
Once those are submitted, we kind of need someone to stay on us to
review those and get the ones we want to publish edited.
Personally I want to see us become more structured. For example have
regular columns that focus on different things. Like i really want a
column that focuses on using GNOME, something that can help new users
learn how to best use GNOME and GNOME tools. Also columns discussing
GNOME dev tools, process, and probably about what's new and coming. For
example, I have been thinking about writing something about new modules
accepted for 2.24.

So, what's going on? It's been 9 months or so since a new article was posted. I am willing to help - I'd hate to see this die away, and I would love to see it far more active (as it once was). I used to love to read the "Behind the Scenes" series, and I would love to see this revived, and be far more extensive and popular than KDE's "Behind KDE" page.

What can I do to help? I'm willing to do anything. I'm 100% about promoting GNOME, as well as giving insights into the GNOME developers and contributers, delivering GNOME News to the community as well as showing off coming GNOME Projects and applications.

I would love to see GNOME Journal be a "go-to" place for folks to come and read about GNOME, but too me, it seems it's just dying away, slowly but surely. I know everything is done by volunteers, and that we all have real-life, but I'm willing to give up some of my free time to make this happen.

I've volunteered to help several times in the past but I haven't ever gotten any real direction on where to go, or what to do.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Ken,
I'm wondering now, how many people are actively involved (or willing to be actively involved) in the GNOME Journal?

I've checked out some of the wiki pages such as these:

http://live.gnome.org/GnomeJournal/ArticleWishlist
http://live.gnome.org/GnomeJournal/ArticleSubmissionQueue

Most of the info in the ArticleSubmissionQueue is very out-dated (or is it?), and on the ArticleWishlist page, it's hard to tell how old the information is.

Also, I just found: http://live.gnome.org/GnomeJournal/BehindTheScenes

This is the area that interests me a lot, and is actually an area I feel I can contribute. I'm sure I could get one of these done per issue (if we can start doing regular issue releases again). I do not feel I'm skilled enough of a writer to tackle a big, involved article involving lots of research (nor do I have enough time to properly devote to articles such as that), but I enjoy people, and learning more about them, so the Behind The Scenes series always intrigued me. I could also possibly tackle some articles in the vein of Ken's suggesting regarding "Using GNOME" or "GNOME from the End-User Perspective" (since I am a non-coder). I think articles such as these will not only be an interesting read for anyone, but could work in reverse of the "Behind the Scenes" series by giving the coders an insight into what the end-user sees, wants and thinks.

As for other types of articles, I'm still willing to contribute where and how I can, and I could help getting things organized and keeping things on track for a deadline. When I first mentioned getting involved Sri suggested a pretty massive project involving the Online Desktop, and that was way too much for me to handle.

I would like to see if we could get some fresh info on the pages linked above to see where we are, and where we need to go
