same thing is happening with gnome-utils with git status

i wanted to run git diff AUTHORS but i cant see the end of the list. i
dont return to the command prompt. i expanded the screen size and more
lines appear.
 I opened a tab and wrote git diff AUTHORS

i get
drtv narayana:~/git/gnome-utils/po$ git diff AUTHORS
fatal: ambiguous argument 'AUTHORS': unknown revision or path not in
the working tree.
Use '--' to separate paths from revisions
drtv narayana:~/git/gnome-utils/po$

sigh!
