While Canadian tends to use the British spelling of words (colour,
behaviour, etc.) we also tend to use the US choice of words (so you
usually will not hear Canadians say rubbish unless we want to sound
silly).

(and of course some everyday words used elsewhere, sound really strange
to Canadian ears, mate(?!))
