Yeah, great idea.

But it would never be a fool-proof measure of anything.  The problem
is that number of messages differs between languages (due to many
factors, bugs in translations, errors while updating POT, etc.), so
it's hard to correctly get "number of translatable messages" and "any
change from last week".

I'll work something out, and I'll post a sample mail for Gnome 2.8 in
a couple of minutes.

Note again that anything it reports may be misleading due to above
mentioned issues.
