gnumeric & UTF-8

Hello,

I am the Turkish translator for gnumeric.  While testing my translation, I
noticed the following problem:

I use my system with LANG="tr_TR.UTF-8"

I use recent gettext, which does UTF->ISO translations on the fly, and works
fine for other programs.

I have formatted the translation file (PO) in UTF-8.

Now in gnumeric, certain strings look fine, but cells display gibberish
(UTF-8 displayed in ISO8859-9.)

As I do use the latest version of gettext, which does work fine for other
programs, I am inclined to believe that this is due to something gnumeric
must be doing.

Any suggestions as to where this might be coming from?
