In fact you can have non-ascii in msgid; but it *must* be in the same encoding
as the msgstr (that is, the one announced in the po file header).
In practice that means that the only non-ascii encoding suitable to use
is utf-8; and that doing so also mandates to use utf-8 for all translations.
Now however, as utf-8 usage isn't yet widespread, it is better to avoid using
any non ascii char. But in the future, when utf-8 will be the dafault; it
will be possible to start using non-ascii chars in the source strings, if
needed.
