The reason that this subject was brought forward, was to give some
recognition of the hard effort of the translators.

A nice option would be to show a WWW site of the translation team and
possibly pass a parameter to the URL so that the WWW site can offer custom
views...

That is, in the about box:
--
This program was localised by the <Greek translation team>
--
And in the <>, a link to:

http://nls.hellug.gr/cgi-bin/translation_credits?gnome-core
------------------------------------------------ ----------

static part                                     | variable part

Hmm, the static part could be pointing to a GNOME site that redirects
to different local translation WWW sites. Second attempt:

http://developer.gnome.org/cgi-bin/translation_credits?country=el&package=gnome-core
------------------------------------------------------
static part                                           |$LANG
|gettext() function? etc...

Kind of complicated to implement, just my 5 drachmas. (less than 1p)
