The reason why g-l head is harder to build is the fact that it's based on
gtk+ 2.0.  This is a primary goal of g-l 2.0, so even if you started with
stable you'd immediately port it to 2.0 and have the same "problem".  Once
patches get integrated after 1.4, g-l will get supprisingly easier to build.
