Well, having "saved desktop-layouts" (i.e. sets of applications in a "tiled" layout) available on the click of a button would be a nice idea. This would be a useful addition to the Gnome-Panel and/or the Window-Manager.
Most of those features are already available but the usability (that's why it's on this list) is not as easy as it could be.
I think the combination of "Tasks" and "multiple desktops" would be a great improvement.
There may be a "Tasks" menu added to the Gnome (Foot)-menu, containing (initially) items like
"Save current desktop layout as new task"
"Snap Windows to borders / Tile Windows" {to have a tiled, borderless layout}
"Add Window to this task >" {containing list of all currently open windows}
"--------"
"File&System Management" (giving access to the desktop and/or GMC/Nautilus, Control Center, ...)
{additional desktop layouts added here...}
When a desktop is already opened the WM simply switches to it, otherwise session management starts the applications needed and/or places windows on this desktop.
Michael
