useability improvement.
Delete By Type
Select By Type
This saves resources, time, and it makes things easier to use.
Delete by type works like this.
Someone has too many text files, or logs, or history files, and they want to
delete all of the history and text files in 5 folders, but not all of the
history files on the computer.
The old way, Open each folder, Select display by type, delete each history
file manually one by one.
The new way, go to the main menu with all the folders, select Delete By
Type, choose the type of file from a list or enter the type of file, then
highlight the folders with your mouse, and as you highlight, it calculates
all the files and asks you if you are sure, and deletes.
This saves time by A, keeping you from opening all those menus to delete
files.
B it keeps you from wasting resources by opening all those windows. C It
saves screen space because only one window is open. It deletes files faster
than you could possibly do it manually. D while the files are deleting you
can be doing something else, like go surf the web, or listen to an mp3,
because YOU arent manually deleting, seeing the "are you sure" dialog with
each and every file.
Select by type works the same way. Choose your type, Highlight Folders, and
it will select all of the files of that type and allow you to copy them, and
if they are mp3 files store them all in a play list, if they are image files
store them in a gallary, zip them, send them to people over the net, email
it to people etc.
So now you can for example, send all of your MP3s even if they are in 7
diffrent folders.
You should be able to configure this to allow you to set how many subfolders
it searches through.
Doing this will keep people from opening so many folders all the time saving
them tons of resources because the machine wont have to physically display
the contents of each folder, and really why do you need the contents if you
know exactly what you want and what you want to do with it.
You want to delete groups of files, well now you can do it, without opening
folders,
and now you can select groups of files without opening folders.
I've discussed it in #Nautilus and #Gnome, no one seemed to understand the
concept, so i figure I'll show it to a wider audience.
Something like this, wouldnt be too hard to code, and would save everyone
tons of resources.
Best example of this "quick" delete idea is deleting a folder, it was an
option to make people delete things quickly, while you cannot always see
what you delete, its fast.
