I totally agree. However a lot af apps already know how to
request an hourglass cursor, galeon can use its own throbber
with the embeded gecko... So I think a great part of this
problem is already taken part of.
What remains to do is to convince app writers to report
states so the WM/desktop manager can show them with whatever
feedback indicator the user chose instead of thinking
"houglass cursor" or "my network throbber". Not too
different than switching from app-chosen colors to gtk-theme
managed ones.
I *really* don't think the implementation would be too
difficult once everyone is convinced of its usefullness.
