Adding menus to panels?

Is there any way that I've missed of adding an arbitrary new menu to a
panel?

A drawer doesn't really do the job I have in mind (it doesn't allow
"sub-drawers", and I'd rather have text instead of guessing what an icon
is for anyway).  And I don't want to add any more junk to my Favorites
menu-- it's full enough already, and puts everything at least one more
click away than it would be if I could just add another menu to my
panel...
