It is indeed turned on by default. But I don't understand the problem
with that, as it won't get loaded until you use it. Doesn't the music
view use mpg123 for playback?
If you don't want "bloat", don't use it. Have you ever tested Nautilus?
The music view doesn't get used until you turn on "View as Music" on
that directory.

Nautilus will be in Gnome 1.4, yes.
