I don't know if there is any PPA, also I don't know if emerald will work, but you can try. These days I don't use compiz anymore.

Also from what I understand now is that you have build compiz without metacity. It should work - gtk-window-decorator should fall back to cairo theme, but it is crashing because of missing theme key - it is bug. So you have another option:

- copy/replace attached gschema file to:

/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas

- recompile schemas

sudo glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas

Now gtk-window-decorator should start as you will have theme key under metacity schema.

metacity 3.18.x and 3.16.x depends on GTK+ 3.16 so that might be another problem.

Easiest way probably would be to use compiz 0.9.12.1 tarball as that release works with metacity 3.14. Otherwise if you want to build compiz from trunk than you will need to revert this:

only thing that is marked not found in cmake log is libmetacity-private. even though it's installed in /usr/lib
