Re: [gnome-flashback] Building Flashback with jhbuild

Yes that would be a very good Idea. Right now glib fails to build,
even though it worked perfectly yesterday (but then cairo was failing
to build)....
Yes, jhbuild is hard. However this has nothing to do with flashback.

I dont quite understand why jhbuild needs to compile glib from
git/master when gnome-panel works well with a last stable version of
glib and probably also most other libraries.
Read the modulesets. There is a dependency chain all the way down to
glib etc.

"I need at least gtk 3.9.91, build it from master if you don't have it,
otherwise use the distribution's version" is just not something you can
express with jhbuild dependencies.

However, as the Gnome 3.8 stack has been released since April already,
it really should be OK to rely on it at this point, and it should be
buildable.
You are just experiencing the normal "getting started with jhbuild"
pains. Note this:
https://wiki.gnome.org/Jhbuild/FAQ#Where_can_I_get_help_on_JHBuild_or_building_GNOME.3F

OTOH, you could just do a git checkout, and try to build it standalone,
without jhbuild, and solving the dependencies manually using distri
packages.

I can probably find some time on Sunday. Can I find you somewhere on IRC?
No, I'm not much of an IRC person, sorry. (If I have time, I'll try to
stop by on IRC, though I probably won't have.) Feel free to send me your
Jabber address by PM though.

Cheers,
  Philipp
