I switched to 3.8 and now at least sysdeps does not complain anymore. 
However at the same time I have also been upgrading my system to Ubuntu 
13.04, so its possible that some of the missing dependencies have 
already been upgraded.

Yes that would be a very good Idea. Right now glib fails to build, even 
though it worked perfectly yesterday (but then cairo was failing to 
build).... I dont quite understand why jhbuild needs to compile glib 
from git/master when gnome-panel works well with a last stable version 
of glib and probably also most other libraries.
