Don't think about cryptic commands to extract the *.po files. As the same as you do with the GUI translations, just download these files from the Damned Lies pages. That's all! Vertimus runs the newest version of the utilities to parse the *.page or *.xml files from any DocBook or Mallard based documentation. The generated *.po files are always as up-to-date as the GUI files.
