As usual, Telsa hits the nail on the head.  Both variations are widely
accepted computer terms.  You can defend almost any of these with valid
references. So what we need is to consistent with ourselves.

GIMP uses plug-in.  Most of the rest will probably conform with the
GNOME style guide, but I plan to write it up when I have time.  I might
go with the variations I use for SuSE for GIMP (SuSE has a style guide
now) since I will be doing most of the proofing in GIMP.  But the main
thing is for a project to be consistent.  If the reader sees different
spellings different places, it will confuse them.  It is best to be
consistent with ourselves and not worry too much about the rest.
