Think about:

- Machine configuration programs (gdm, Ximian Setup Tools, etc)

- Software management (Red Carpet, GnoRPM, etc)

Like I said, the most common case is needing to execute things as the
root user to have permission to make modifications.

Although, I could see this being useful with databases, for example,
where things need be run as the pgsql user or whatever...
