Attention Deficit Disorder. In my case, it helps make me a good
programmer, as I'm willing to work for years on end with a machine and
little human interaction. In fact, I just work from home, and don't
even go to the office. It also makes me less able to understand other
people's emotional reactions, so it's best to be quite literal with
me. Mostly I'm best at working on low-level hard-core algorithms,
which is why I'm focusing on speech synthesis and recognition in my
free time. However, as of last year, I'm taking a medication called
Vyvance, which is basically speed. I find I can now track two or even
three tasks at the same time, when normally I have to focus on only
one task. It enabled me to take point on the Vinux 3.0 release, but
it also probably contributed to my stay in the hospital with blood
clots, which is why I'm backing off taking primary responsibility for
Vinux software development.
