Thanks! Aparently, the Gentoo folks didn't know about this as my gnome
ebuild came with Gnopernicus, but Orca was an extra install.
So, will the test-speech program still serve me as a useful tool to ensure
that gnome-speech is working?
Thanks,
Keith

Hi.
Both Gnopernicus and the speech-dispatcher gnome-speech driver are no longer
supported. Starting in Gnome 2.14, the default screen
reader is now Orca. If you want to use speech-dispatcher, Orca has an
experimental speech-dispatcher back end.
You should consider upgrading to at least Gnome 2.18 and orca 2.18 for best
results with gnome accessibility.
Kenny
