Just to be clear: gnome mag is not able to set "on the fly" some
parameters. Because of that, the magnifier server has to be stopped then
restarted. An workaround when it is used is to restart gnopernicus.

So, updating gnome-mag probably fixes the problem. But, for the best
result (and not only in magnifier area) is good to update gnopernicus
too.
