Hi, David.
You can get the Freetts synth, demos,  etc from:
http://freetts.sourceforge.net
Note, it also requires the junit libraries for proformence tuning,  and in
order to use it with gnopernicus you will require the java-access-bridtge
for gnome installed before compiling gnome-speech.
You'll also have to pass options to configure in order for gnome-speech to
link with freetts etc...
