Yes, this is a important feature, but for your information there are
already a application with this feature.

It is implemented as a applet on the gnome-panel. It is being included
in most of the linux distributions that include gnome.

A rough explanation of how to install it:
 1. Put your mouse on your panel
 2. Right click
 3. Add to panel
 4. Select "Keyboard Accessibility Status"

If Sticky keys are activated, it should show 6 indicators.

Or you are talking about GNOME 3? We already have written it as a
issue to solve [1], and some mock-ups have it already.
