Yes this seems to be the general idea. I have no idea what would be
involved implementing this. Writing a libmtools seems to be a thought.
And yes I know software other than GNOME (or rather maybe GTK+ if it was
part of the GTK+ filedialog widget) wouldn't be able to use it right
away but hopefully OpenOffice and Mozilla could be patched.
