Gimp 2.10 will uninstall Gimp 2.8 as part of the process. If you have installed
any 3rd-party plugins to the Gimp system folder, then not a bad idea to
uninstall Gimp 2.8 first. Some of these 2.8 legacy plugins can cause problems.
Uninstall Gimp 2.8 If any files remain in C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\ delete them.
GIMP 2.10 will not uninstall GIMP 2.8 - it simply installs over it (and
removes old plugins). It will however uninstall GIMP 2.6 and older first,
because from 2.8 onwards GIMP installs 64-bit version by default when
possible.
Again my advice, start with a clean install.
Official advice is to just install over the current version and let it
migrate settings.
