[Gimp-user] Gimpm 2.10 8-bit warning when opening tiff

I am using Gimp 2.10 on Windows 10, fully updated. When I open tiffs, I still
get the warning that the file is 16 bit and Gimp can't handle that. I thought it
could do 16-bit now? How do I get a 16-bit tiff to open?

Historically (2.8.x and earlier) GIMP would open 16-bit TIFFs but either round
or truncate (not sure which) them to 8 bits per pixel. Supposedly one of the
major improvements with GIMP 2.10 would be full support for 16 (and more) bits
per channel.

But like you, I have this exact same problem with GIMP 2.10.2 (and before that,
2.10.0) in Windows 7-32 bit Professional, but not in Windows 7-64 bit Home
Premium (two separate computers). I even tried uninstalling and re-installing,
but the error persists.

I have been using GIMP since at least 2.0 and probably 1.2.x, and have never
experienced anything like this before. My home computer (64-bit OS) has been
running versions of GIMP since I got it more than five years ago, and my work
computer (32-bit OS) has been running versions of GIMP since I got it about
three years ago. Neither has given my any problems to speak of with GIMP (other
than printing) before now.

Oh, and I've now made very similar replies about two different 2.10 bugs, the
other being the inability to save--W7-64 works fine, W7-32 fails every time.
