[Gimp-user] color managing slows gimp down?

I notice that when I use a color managed display, the zooming in and out 
of an image is very slow (maybe 500ms per increment). If I disable color 
management, zooming is instantaneous.

Is this normal/expected?

Gimp 2.9.5, commit 86e101e322, Kubuntu 16.10.
