[Gimp-user] Semi Transparency

I've been looking everywhere for a tutorial on how to get this sort of
transparency effect on a photo, .. can't find anything. How do you take an image
and put a gradual transparency effect on it where it starts out 100% on the
edges then slowly darkens up towards the middle. Like this one:
