Just for those who might have similar problems:

I followed this advice:

http://registry.gimp.org/node/31

All the missing dll's were already present in the Gimp directories I had
 previously installed. I had to copy them from program
files\gimp2\bin\xx.dll to program files\ufraw\bin\xx.dll

(from Pastingal)

and then reinstalled ufraw. now it works!

oh yeah!
