Gimp is pixel based, Inkscape is vector based. IE, Photoshop vs.. Corel
Draw.
I am aware of that. But the projects are comparable in the sense that
both are open source projects building graphics applications using GTK+
primarly targeted to Linux, but also ported to Windows and MacOS X. Both
of them also supports drawing tablets.
Both are also potential alternatives to (different) apps from Adobe on
Windows and MacOS X.
