I had the topic 'GIMP on other platforms' on the LGM team meeting

(See Schumaml's prepared document 'Meeting minutes').
As the topic raises up more often these days we should
clarify soon how to deal with newer platforms.

Well *my* position is clear (I don't know about the others): I am
against nothing as long as it does not interfere with the normal GIMP.
If someone wants an Android version, even an Iphone or whatever, no
prob if this person contributes it.

Once it is under the bigger GIMP project's umbrella, I may even
contribute myself (same as I patched the Windows or OSX builds several
times even though I use none of them). But the first step must be for
someone else to kickstart this, and even more do the effort to come to
us with code. Because just asking or doing something just by oneself
in a corner of the web without trying to dialog with us, well that
won't go anywhere in my opinion.

So that's for me: I welcome any platforms, just waiting for their
developers to come to and work with us! :-)

Kind regards,

Is there a gimp for android? I miss it so,since I lost computer.I have a
odd make, my android is a xeilo tablet 4.1.1. Digging into the system it
seams to be with a kernel of Linux 2.6.x. files are apex format.

There is no official GIMP for Android. I remember that someone said he
compiled GIMP for Android. You can find it on the Google play store.
But this was "as is", there were apparently no adaptation whatsoever,
or very few, to adapt it to small devices (phone, tablets), so
usability is likely close to inexisting and frustrating.
That means also that the GIMP developers cannot vouch for it. The
"normal" GIMP is meant for desktop only.

Note that I don't think that anyone is against getting a real GIMP for
Android, adapted for tablets and phones or such devices. But simply no
contributor ever shown interest into starting the porting work and
contributing this upstream.

I hope I gave you efficient information.
Thank you
