A couple of hours ago, when discussing this issue with Jesusda we both noticed (both noticed it for the very first time) the option in the preferences that disables the warning for unsaved XCF files.
After realizing the existence of that feature, I can't see why we should go back to the older behavior, since all that users want is having the export/overwrite features saving and not warning of the unsaved file right after the export.
Replacing the export accelerators for the current save accelerators and disabling the unsaved file warning is all you need if you want the old behavior back.
It brings the potential risk of loosing unsaved data, but if you're willing to go back to the old behavior, then you're accepting that danger in a certain degree, because the old method carried that risk.
So, what's all this discussion about after all? Do we need to revert to the old method? Answer seems no, not because nobody would want the old behavior back (there is a lot of people crying for it), but because it's pointless to use developer efforts and cluttering the UI with something that's already possible.
