[gedit-list] default highlight mode

Hi all,

I'm aware that I can set an edit mode for a given file via the menus.

Is there a way to set the default edit mode to something other than plain text?

It would also suit me fine if I could set the default edit mode just
for *.txt to be something other than plain text (specifically,
Markdown).
