When learning the keyboard shortcuts, the incremental search is quite 
convenient to use. See help -> contents in the menu, or press F1.

If you still don't like, try the Commander plugin, it also contains a 
search command.

Or use the search and replace dialog.

There are also other search and replace third-party plugins.
