[gedit-list] Plugin debugging?

Hi folks... I'm still having problems getting my trailsave plugin to work. It is properly installed in:

  ~/.gnome2/gedit/plugins/trailsave.*

However, it does NOT appear in the plugins tab under preferences when I run gedit.

How can I debug this? Is there some way to verify that gedit really is looking in the right place for plugins?
