[gedit-list] Installing gedit

Subject: [gedit-list] Installing gedit

I have downloaded gedit-2.28.3.dmg from http://projects.gnome.org/gedit/
and installed the software on my iMac (OSX 10.4.11).  When I attempt to
launch the application, an icon flashes on the toolbar and disappears, and
then nothing.  Do I need a license, or the latest version of OSX?
