[gedit-list] Ubuntu packages

I'm using gedit 2.26.1 on Ubuntu 9.04, soon to be upgraded to 9.10 and
to whatever version of gedit is packaged for that version, but I'd like
to be running a more bleeding edge version. Is there a PPA for the
latest stable build (ideal), or a recommend recipe for building
Debian/Ubuntu packages from the repository?
