Hello.
I'm trying to use Gedit 2.16.2 on a Gentoo Linux x86 system to
edit a text file, which is stored on a NFS share.
askwar winnb000488 /net/winds06/opt/service/scripts/_ $ ls -la
insgesamt 5
drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 3 9. May 11:21 .
drwxrwxr-x 5 askwar users 31 9. May 11:21 ..
-rw------- 1 askwar users 0 9. May 11:21 neue Datei
I'm "askwar" and I'm trying to edit "neue Datei", which I created
a few seconds ago from within Nautilus. When I now try to save the
modified file in gedit, I get:
Could not create a backup file while saving /net/winds06/opt/service/scripts/_/neue Datei
gedit could not backup the old copy of the file before saving the new one. You can ignore this warning and save the file anyway, but if an error occurs while saving, you could lose the old copy of the file. Save anyway?
Why is gedit unable to create a backup copy? Note that the directory
has perms 0777. With gvim, a "neue Datei~" can be created just fine.
What's going wrong there with gedit?
Alexander Skwar
