Well, if you need to edit a file as root, then I hope you can figure how
to do so. Otherwise it is better you don't edit it ;)
IMHO, it is more important to be able to save a file you own but for
which you don't have write permissions.
BTW, I'm half joking here, in the sense that I see the rational of this
request.

Well, this could be a possible solution but before implementing it we
need to solve some problems:
- is gksu(do) a blessed tool in GNOME?
- we need a way to authenticate the main gedit process against the proxy
